Laurence Guy sums up his work in one line: music to make you feel feelings. Comfort, nostalgia, bittersweetness, melancholy — the London producer puts them into house tracks that are still built for the dance floor, and that have taken him from squat parties to Glastonbury.
Drum ’n’ bass, dubstep and FWD>>
Guy grew up in Guildford and got into electronic music at twelve, through drum ’n’ bass and UK dubstep. He learned to DJ at house parties, went to squat raves in Acton and Seven Sisters, and then to FWD>> at Plastic People. He started producing in his early teens on FL Studio before moving to Logic and Ableton. On his eighteenth birthday he was at fabric when Carl Craig played Jeff Mills’ “The Bells”. The club later turned up in one of his own titles, “I Made This To Play at fabric”.
Albums and labels
His debut album, Saw You For The First Time, came out in 2017. The second, Living Like There’s No Tomorrow, But Killing Yourself In The Process, followed in 2023. Along the way he has released on Studio Barnhus, Ninja Tune, Shall Not Fade and Church, and he is now signed to Future Classic. By his own count, his tracks have passed 60 million streams.
