Guy Gerber came to techno through Joy Division and My Bloody Valentine. That love of harmony and shoegaze shaped his club tracks, and the melodic streak took the Israeli producer from John Digweed’s Bedrock to Sven Väth’s Cocoon, a residency at Pacha and an album with Puff Daddy.
Bedrock and Cocoon
Guy Avraham Gerber was born in 1974. His early releases came out on European labels, among them “Stoppage Time” on Bedrock, John Digweed’s imprint, and a track on Cocoon’s Cocoon Compilation F. His first full-length album, Late Bloomers, followed on Cocoon Recordings in June 2007. It included the club hits “Belly Dancing” and “Sea of Sand”, made with fellow Israeli producer Shlomi Aber. My Invisible Romance came next.
Supplement Facts, remixes and fabric
Gerber set up his first label, Supplement Facts, and signed artists such as Chaim, dOP, Guti and Kate Simko. He remixed New Order, Dominik Eulberg, Deniz Kurtel’s “The L Word” and Azari & III’s “Hungry for the Power”. For fabric, he delivered a mix made entirely of his own productions (2012–2013), and he released the LP Who’s Stalking Who. Resident Advisor ranked him among its top ten performers three years running.
Pacha, Burning Man and 11 11
In 2013 his “Wisdom of the Glove” residency at Pacha caught the attention of the New York Times. In 2014 he played a twelve-hour set at Burning Man and released 11 11, an album made with Puff Daddy (Sean Combs).
Rumors
Gerber then put Supplement Facts on hold to start Rumors, a label and a party. The first release was “No Distance”, made with Dixon. In 2014 Rumors threw a free beach party at Playa d’en Bossa in Ibiza, and its EP Rumors on the Dancefloor featured Miss Kittin, one of the early names on DJ Hell’s Gigolo label. Rumors parties have hosted Sasha, Kenny Glasgow and Matthew Dear, and travelled to Art Basel Miami, BPM in Mexico and We Are FSTVL in London. In summer 2024 the party was booked at Playa Soleil in Ibiza.
