Fred Falke is the bass player of French touch. He arrived in dance music in 2000 with “Intro”, made with Alan Braxe, and spent the next two decades remixing pop and house records for a long list of names.
From bass guitar to Vulture
Falke played bass before he moved into production. His first record, “Intro”, came out in 2000 on Vulture Music, co-credited to Alan Braxe, and sampled The Jets’ 1987 hit “Crush on You”. Braxe had been one third of Stardust, whose “Music Sounds Better With You” was a hit two years earlier. Read the full story of “Intro”.
The Braxe & Falke years
The duo released a handful of singles: “Running” (2000), “Palladium” / “Penthouse Serenade” (2002), “Love Lost” (2003) and “Rubicon” (2004). With Géraud Lafarge they made “Defender” / “Bliss” (2005) as Defender, and later “You’ll Stay in My Heart” (2009) as Savage. Their remixes took the filtered, bass-led sound to bigger names: Goldfrapp’s “Number 1” and Röyksopp’s “Only This Moment” in 2005, Kelis’s “Bossy” and Jamiroquai’s “Runaway” in 2006, then Justice’s “D.A.N.C.E.” and Dragonette’s “Take It Like a Man” in 2007. The partnership ended in 2008.
Solo remixer, pop writer
On his own, Falke released “Music for My Friends” (2008), “Chicago” with Teff Balmert (2009), “When I Look Into Your Eyes” (2010) and “Geronimo” with The Knocks (2012), and joined Tiësto and Ellen Lea on “Calling on Angels” (2014). His remix list grew fast: U2’s “Magnificent” (2009), Robyn’s “Dancing on My Own” and Katy Perry’s “Firework” (2010), Selena Gomez’s “Come & Get It” (2013), Bastille’s “Bad Blood” (2014) and Jamiroquai’s “Cloud 9” (2017). He made four official Jamiroquai remixes in all, two solo and two with Braxe. He also has writing or production credits with Ellie Goulding, Gossip, Will Young, Theophilus London and Nervo.
“Intro”, 25 years on
Since 2021 Falke has been half of Ampersounds with Zen Freeman, a British producer based in Los Angeles. In 2024 “Intro” was used in the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics, and Justice nodded to the duo’s production style on Hyperdrama. In 2026 Falke and Braxe reunited for the track’s 25th anniversary: the Intro (25th Anniversary) EP came out on 20 March 2026 on Smugglers Way, with a cosmic dub remix by Falke.
His records are built around the bass: round, melodic lines under looped disco. They suit the warm, early part of a night as much as the peak. For the wider family, read about Daft Punk.
