Octo Octa

From her first EP on 100% Silk to T4T LUV NRG, the label she runs with Eris Drew: the records and mixes of Octo Octa, alias Maya Bouldry-Morrison.

In short

  • American producer and DJ Maya Bouldry-Morrison, born in Chicago on 13 May 1987 and based in New Hampshire.
  • First EP, Let Me See You, on 100% Silk in 2011.
  • Co-founder, with her partner Eris Drew, of the label T4T LUV NRG.

Octo Octa came to house music from the side door of IDM and drum ’n’ bass, and stayed. Across fifteen years of records, Maya Bouldry-Morrison has moved from her first EPs on 100% Silk to the label she now runs with Eris Drew.

From IDM to house

Bouldry-Morrison was born in Chicago on 13 May 1987. She studied at the University of New Hampshire, where she formed a dance band, Horny Vampyre, with a friend. Her early influences were Warp records, IDM, drum ’n’ bass, the San Francisco label Tigerbeat6 and the trans artist DJ Sprinkles. Warp is the label that released Detroit producer Kenny Larkin’s Azimuth in 1994.

The 100% Silk years

Her first EP, Let Me See You, came out on 100% Silk in 2011, followed the same year by the album Rough, Rugged, and Raw. The label also released her Silk Road Mix (2012) and the album Between Two Selves (2013). EPs on other labels followed: “Where Did You Go / Through the Haze” on Argot (2014), More Times on Running Back and Further Trips on Deepblak (both 2015). Over the years her records have also appeared on Frendzone, Love Notes, Low Income $quad and Skylax.

Where Are We Going?

In 2016 she came out publicly as transgender. She has said the process began in 2012, after reading a Rolling Stone article about Laura Jane Grace of Against Me!. Her next album, Where Are We Going?, came out in 2017 on HNYTRX, the label of the San Francisco collective Honey Soundsystem, which also released her single “Adrift” that year. It was her first album after coming out.

T4T LUV NRG with Eris Drew

In 2019 she and her partner, the DJ Eris Drew, announced their own label, T4T LUV NRG. It became Octo Octa’s main home: the album Resonant Body (2019), the She’s Calling EP (5 February 2021), Dreams Of A Dancefloor (2023) and the Love Hypnosis mixes (2020 and 2022). The pair also mixed Fabric Presents Octo Octa & Eris Drew for the London club in 2020.

In 2026 two more albums arrived: Sigils for Survival on T4T LUV NRG, and Alchemical Sisters, a joint record with Eris Drew on Interdimensional Transmissions. Fifteen years after her first EP, the catalogue also counts four DJ mixes, from the Silk Road Mix to the second Love Hypnosis.
