Tout est permis — Shanna
The follow-up to the summer single “Il est interdit…”: Shanna’s “Tout est permis” entered the French chart in November 2007 and stayed there for 19 weeks.
- Second single by the French dance act Shanna, released in 2007 by Universal Licensing Music.
- The follow-up to “Il est interdit…”, which peaked at No. 12 in France that summer.
- Entered the French singles chart at No. 25 on 24 November 2007 and stayed for 19 weeks.
In 2007 Shanna had two French chart singles whose titles answer each other. The summer release said “Il est interdit…” (“It is forbidden…”); the winter follow-up replied “Tout est permis” (“Anything goes”). Both came from the same writers and the same album.
After “Il est interdit…”
Shanna’s first single, “Il est interdit…”, entered the French Top Singles on 7 July 2007, peaked at No. 12 and spent 22 weeks on the chart. It also appeared in the Ultratip bubbling-under list in Wallonia, Belgium. Both singles came out on Universal Licensing Music, and both credit Fabrice Nyiri and Krista Cappan as writers; Xavier Leman is also credited on the first.
The single and its mixes
“Tout est permis” entered the French chart at No. 25 on 24 November 2007. That first week was its peak, but the song held on for 19 weeks, until the end of March 2008. The single came with five versions: an Original Radio Edit, an Electro Club Edit, an Original Club Mix, an Electro Club Mix and a “Jumper Mix”. A separate remix release added versions by Mixata — dub, extended and edit — and by DJ Interdit, including an instrumental.
L’album… interdit
Both songs open L’album… interdit, where “Tout est permis” is track three, after an intro and “Il est interdit…”. The album features K-Deeja on several tracks, including “Music! DJ!” and “Bad Boy, Bad Girl”, and Mr Joy on “Everybody Say Hou…!”. It closes with a megamix of the two singles. The album made only a brief appearance on the French chart, at No. 200.
Where it sits
“Tout est permis” belongs to the French club-pop of the late 2000s, when electro club mixes sat next to radio edits on the same single.
