“Good Feelin’” is a snapshot of French club radio in 2000. DJ Flex was a young Paris DJ heard on national radio, Ken Norris brought the voice, and the single stayed in the French chart from autumn into winter.

A radio DJ from Paris

DJ Flex is Robert Joubi, born in Paris on 22 March 1976. He started his career in 1999 with sets on Extravadance, NRJ’s dance programme, then became a resident DJ on Fun Radio and Radio FG, where he stayed until 2006. His first single, “Ready”, entered the French chart in February 2000 and reached No. 31, with 15 weeks on the chart.

Ken Norris on vocals

For the follow-up he worked with singer Ken Norris. The same year Norris also appeared on Bob Sinclar’s second album, Champs Elysées, released by Yellow Productions in October 2000, on the track “Life” with Chezere. The French chart credited the single to “DJ Flex feat. Ken Norris” and listed it as “Good Feeling”; the release itself spells it “Good Feelin’”.

Release and remixes

The single entered the French Top Singles on 28 October 2000 and peaked at No. 38, with 18 weeks on the chart. The release paired a classic club mix and a full radio mix with two remixes: one by Antoine Clamaran, at almost eight minutes, and one by Silverstar.

Flex returned to the chart once more, with “Love for U” in January 2002 (No. 89). He went on to run the label Excess Music and released his first studio album, Supernova, in 2010.

In the mix

The Antoine Clamaran remix is the long, club-length version. For more French dance records from the same turn of the century, read about Bob Sinclar’s “I Feel for You”, Alan Braxe and Fred Falke’s “Intro” and our history of French electronic dance music.
