Dubdogz

Twin brothers from Juiz de Fora who went from psytrance raves to Tomorrowland, DJ Mag’s Top 100 and a free music school back home.

In short

  • Brazilian twin brothers Lucas and Marcos, from Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais.
  • Played psytrance at raves before starting Dubdogz as a club project.
  • No. 93 in DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs in 2022, No. 62 in 2024.

Dubdogz belong to the generation that took Brazilian dance music onto the world’s big stages, alongside Alok and Vintage Culture. Behind the name are twins from Juiz de Fora, a city in Minas Gerais, who started out on borrowed equipment at school.

From school breaks to psytrance raves

Lucas and Marcos first played during breaks at school, on gear they borrowed. According to Forbes Brasil, the spark came from an uncle who went to raves and played psytrance in his car. The twins have been playing since they were 14, and their first project was a psytrance act that played raves and festivals in Brazil and abroad. At 16 they made their first international tour with it.

Dubdogz came later. Once they turned 18 and started going to clubs, they launched a new project aimed at the club floor rather than the rave field.

House, remixes and streaming numbers

Billboard Brasil describes the Dubdogz sound as deep house and nu disco; DJ Mag files it under bass house. Remixes did a lot to spread the name. By 2023 their hometown paper, Tribuna de Minas, listed remixes for David Guetta, Black Eyed Peas, Shakira, Tiësto, Sofi Tukker and Nile Rodgers. The twins also say their remix of Stromae’s “Alors on Danse” almost overtook the original in plays.

Among their own tracks, “Techno Prank” was described as their biggest hit in 2023, and “Don’t Be Fooled” reworked Jennifer Lopez’s “Jenny from the Block” for the dance floor. Billboard Brasil put “Infinity”, made with Bhaskar, at around 126 million streams, and “Everybody Wants a Party” at about 50 million. Collaborators include Laidback Luke, Vinai, Ofenbach, Firebeatz, Goldfish and Bruno Martini, as well as Benny Benassi, Stromae and the Brazilian singer Céu.

Festivals and the Top 100

2022 was a landmark year. They played Tomorrowland in Belgium, Ushuaïa Ibiza, EDC Mexico and Rock in Rio, and entered DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs at No. 93. By 2024 they were No. 62. Other stages on their record include Lollapalooza, EDC Orlando and The Town. They have played in Germany, Australia, Denmark, France, England, Mexico, Portugal and Thailand, and have fronted campaigns for JBL and Porsche.

Back in Juiz de Fora

The twins kept their roots visible. The Escola de Música Dubdogz offers free lessons in guitar, violin, flute, choir and DJing to about a hundred children aged 7 to 17 from public schools in Juiz de Fora; their mother runs the institute behind it. Their Dog Secret events are free surprise shows in public spaces, and one filled the city’s Avenida Rio Branco in June 2024. For 2026, Forbes Brasil reported plans for a new festival, TRIIIPLE, and an album sung entirely in Portuguese.
