Let Me Think About It — Ida Corr vs. Fedde Le Grand

A Danish soul singer, a Dutch DJ and a remix that went to No. 2 in the UK in 2007: how Let Me Think About It became a club hit.

In short

  • Written in 2006 by Ida Corr, Burhan Genc and Christian von Staffeldt for Corr’s album Robosoul.
  • Remixed by Fedde Le Grand and released on his label, Flamingo Recordings, in 2007.
  • No. 2 in the UK, gold there, and No. 1 on the US Hot Dance Airplay chart.

“Let Me Think About It” started as a soul-pop album track in Denmark and became one of the biggest club records of 2007. Ida Corr wrote it, Fedde Le Grand remixed it, and the result reached No. 2 in the UK.

Ida Corr and Robosoul

Ida Corr was born in Aarhus in 1977 to a Danish mother and a Gambian musician father. She played drums from the age of six, won the first Danish Children’s Song Contest at 14 and spent years as a backing singer for Danish names such as Gnags, Sanne Salomonsen and Thomas Helmig.

In 2006 she wrote “Let Me Think About It” with Burhan Genc and Christian von Staffeldt for her second album, Robosoul. Corr, the production team MoTrack and Kasper Tranberg produced the album version.

Fedde Le Grand’s remix

Fedde Le Grand, from Utrecht, had topped the UK chart in 2006 with “Put Your Hands Up 4 Detroit”. In 2007 he heard Corr’s album version through her label, Lifted House, and produced a remix for his own label, Flamingo Recordings. The club mix runs 6:05. The two also recorded “Mirror 07-07-07” for the Live Earth concerts that year.

The video and the charts

Marcus Adams shot the video in London on 1 June 2007, with choreography by Natricia Bernard; the dancer Jason Beitel mimes the male voice, which belongs to Burhan G. The single reached No. 2 on the UK Singles Chart in October 2007, topped the UK dance chart and went gold in the UK. It reached No. 5 in the Netherlands, No. 8 in Ireland and No. 12 in Denmark, and on 9 February 2008 it hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Airplay chart.

It became the best-selling single outside Denmark by a Danish singer since Aqua and Infernal. It went platinum in Denmark and gold in Germany and New Zealand as well as the UK.

After the hit

For Corr the remix was the peak of a long road. She had already sung in the short-lived girl group Sha Li Mar (2002) and released the album Streetdiva (2005). After “Let Me Think About It” came the Scandinavian compilation One (2008), the albums Under the Sun (2009) and Corr Values (2013), a European Border Breakers Award in 2009 and a seat on the judging panel of the Danish X Factor in 2012. Fedde Le Grand entered the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs at No. 22 in 2007 and climbed to No. 14 in 2011.

In the mix

The Fedde Le Grand mix still works because it barely changes: a vocal riff, a fat bassline and a long build. For more from the same Dutch house wave, read the Fedde Le Grand profile.
