Hardcore Vibes — Global Deejays

Austria’s Global Deejays took “Hardcore Vibes”, Dune’s 1995 rave hit, back into the French top 30 in 2012. The story of the original and of the cover.

In short

  • Cover of “Hardcore Vibes”, the 1995 debut single of German group Dune.
  • Produced by Florian and Konrad Schreyvogl of the Austrian team Global Deejays.
  • Entered the French chart on 14 January 2012 and peaked at No. 24.

“Hardcore Vibes” has charted in three versions: Dune’s original in 1995, Dune’s own remake in 2000 and the Global Deejays cover that reached French charts in 2012. The last one gave a German rave record from the mid-1990s a second run, mostly in French-speaking Europe.

Dune’s 1995 original

Dune was founded by DJ Oliver Froning with producers Jens Oettrich and Bernd Burhoff. “Hardcore Vibes” was the group’s first single, in 1995. It is largely instrumental; the spoken words came from Froning’s niece. It reached No. 5 in Germany, No. 10 in the Netherlands and No. 36 in Switzerland, and appeared on the debut album Dune.

In 2000 the group remade it as “Hardcore Vibes 2000”, credited to Dune vs. Trubblemaker, to promote the singles collection History. That version stopped at No. 70 in Germany.

Global Deejays

Global Deejays started in 2004 as an Austrian DJ team: DJ Taylor (Konrad Schreyvogl), FLOw (Florian Schreyvogl) and, until 2008, DJ Mikkel. Their 2004 track “The Sound of San Francisco” partly sampled the 1967 song “San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair)”.

Reworking older hits became a habit: “What a Feeling (Flashdance)” in 2005, “Get Up! (Before the Night Is Over)” with Technotronic in 2007, and “Everybody’s Free (To Feel Good)” with Rozalla, which reached No. 7 in Australia. In April 2010 they released “My Friend” with Danish singer Ida Corr, and in 2011 “Bring It Back” reached No. 8 on the US Hot Dance Club Songs chart.

The cover and its chart run

The Global Deejays version credits Dune as writer and the Schreyvogl brothers as producers. Released at the end of 2011, it entered the French Top Singles chart at No. 58 on 14 January 2012, climbed to No. 24 — where it stayed two weeks — and spent 21 weeks on the chart. It also reached No. 23 in Belgium (Wallonia), with 11 weeks on the chart, and No. 73 in Switzerland.
