“Unification” is the record that put Eric Carter’s name on the front of a sleeve. In 2008 he had sung a French No. 1 without a featured credit. For his own debut, two established house producers took over the studio.
The voice of “No Stress”
Carter is a singer from Mauritius, and Laurent Wolf and Bob Sinclar helped launch his career. In 2008 he co-wrote and sang two tracks on Wolf’s album Wash My World, including “No Stress”, released on 24 March 2008 on Vogue and Columbia. The song spent a week at No. 1 in France and topped both Belgian charts, yet the single cover did not credit Carter as a featured artist. The writers listed on “No Stress” are Laurent Wolf, Jeremy Hills and Éric Rima.
Sinclar and Axwell in the studio
For his first single, Bob Sinclar and Axwell produced the track. The writing credits list Axel Hedfors (Axwell), Christophe Le Friant (Bob Sinclar) and Eric Rima. At the time Axwell was one third of Swedish House Mafia, formed in late 2008; Sinclar’s own records from those years include “Together” with Steve Edwards.

“Unification” came out on 19 October 2009. It took time to reach the chart: it entered the French Top Singles on 30 January 2010, directly at its peak of No. 25, and stayed for 20 weeks. Carter’s album Unité followed in spring 2010, which is why the single is often dated 2010.
