From rock to the club
Junior Caldera is Jérôme Dumas, from Paris. He started out in rock and moved to house in 2002, while working as a stage designer in Parisian nightclubs. DJ Master Seb mentored him and helped him land a residency at D! Club in Lausanne. In 2003 he won a mixing contest and opened for David Guetta. His 2007 track “Sexy” reached the top five of the French club charts.
Debut and “What You Get”
His album Debut came out on 18 May 2009. “Sleeping Satellite” (No. 37) and “The Way” (No. 22) were his first French chart singles. “What You Get” came next. Bryan William Ellis, Julien Carret and Caldera are credited as writers, with Carret and Caldera as producers.
It entered the French Top Singles chart on 24 October 2009 at No. 14 — its peak — and spent 25 weeks there. At the end of the year, as Caldera prepared a reissue of the album, French chart news noted that its video was getting attention, with some media judging it too provocative.
What came next
The next single, “Can’t Fight This Feeling” with Sophie Ellis-Bextor, came out in February 2010 as the album’s fourth single, reached No. 13 in France and topped Russian airplay. Its story is in the archive.
Caldera also remixed Paulina Rubio, Enrique Iglesias, Janet Jackson and the Pussycat Dolls, and in 2012 released “Lights Out (Go Crazy)” with Natalia Kills and Far East Movement. He later formed the DJ duo TWOPILOTS with Ken Roll.
