Dennis Ferrer before the album
Ferrer, born on 26 December 1970, is a New York DJ, producer and remixer, now based in Union City, New Jersey. He released his first record in 1994. He started out in techno, then moved into gospel house, setting up a label with Kerri Chandler along the way. His breakthrough came in 2003 with a collaboration with Jerome Sydenham.
The World As I See It
King Street Sounds, the New York house label, released Ferrer’s debut album, The World As I See It, in 2006. Its ten tracks include “Church Lady”, “Touched the Sky” with Mia Tuttavilla — No. 32 on the UK Independent Singles Chart in 2007 — and “How Do I Let Go” with K.T. Brooks. The album reached No. 26 on the UK Dance Albums chart. Ferrer produced and arranged the song; the writing credit reads D. Ferrer / K. Taylor. Armada, which reissued the album in 2025, calls it “one of the greatest house music albums of the 21st century”.
Remixes and reissues
The song came out as a single in 2008, with the original, an instrumental and mixes by Charles Webster — a Deep Mix, a Ruff Mix and a 5AM Mix among them — plus a remix by Marco Tegui. The Webster Ruff Mix also turned up on a King Street 12-inch drawn from the compilation My World as They Remixed It. It never really went away. A Webster Club Mix 2 appeared on a 2015 House Legends compilation, Objektivity issued a remix release in 2017 and King Street Sounds put out a new remix package in February 2022. After King Street Sounds relaunched in 2024, the whole album was reissued in April 2025 on sky blue double vinyl for Record Store Day.
After the album
Ferrer went on to run his own label, Objektivity, and released his best-known single, “Hey Hey”, on Defected in 2010. His Objektivity mix of Dido’s “Don’t Believe in Love” earned a Grammy nomination for Best Remixed Recording. He has worked with Masters at Work, Louie Vega and the Martinez Brothers.
