- Vocals by Sandy Chambers; Olga de Souza fronts the video.
- No. 2 in Italy and No. 6 in the UK, with club mixes by MK and Alex Party.
After “The Rhythm of the Night” and “Baby Baby”, Corona needed a third hit and got one. “Try Me Out” reached the top ten in Italy, Spain, the UK, Ireland, Denmark and Finland in summer 1995, and its remix package included house versions by MK and Alex Party.
The Corona project
Corona was formed in 1993 by Brazilian singer and model Olga de Souza and producer Francesco “Checco” Bontempi, who also worked as Lee Marrow. The voices on the first album were not always the face on stage: Giovanna Bersola, known as Jenny B, sang “The Rhythm of the Night”, and Welsh singer Sandy Chambers sang the other tracks. The album The Rhythm of the Night came out in April 1995 on DWA (Dance World Attack).
Making “Try Me Out”
The song was written by Francesco Bontempi, Giorgio Spagna and Annerley Gordon, and produced by Checco and Soul Train for Lee Marrow productions. It contains samples from “Toy”, a 1987 record by Teen Dream. Sandy Chambers sang it; in the video, de Souza performs in coloured, cube-shaped rooms. DWA licensed it to Eternal and WEA in the UK and to EastWest in the US.
A remix for every room
There is no single “house mix” of “Try Me Out”; the single came in many versions. Lee Marrow made Eurobeat, club, airplay and “Trouble” mixes. Alex Party contributed a Cool Mix, and MK delivered a vocal mix, a radio edit and a dub. For house DJs, the MK and Alex Party versions are the ones to look for: both come from house producers and move the song away from the Eurodance original.
Charts and video
The single went to No. 2 in Italy, No. 4 in Spain, No. 5 in Finland, No. 6 in the UK and Denmark, No. 7 in Ireland and on the Eurochart Hot 100, and No. 10 in Australia. It topped the European Dance Radio chart and reached No. 10 on the US Dance Club Play chart. It went gold in Australia and silver in the UK, where it was No. 58 for the year. The video was a Box Top on The Box for four weeks in August 1995.
